Fire Inspections

Fire inspections are life safety inspections that test the assemblies related to fire protection. Spray fire-resistant material is an elaborate inspection process. Life safety materials, surface preparation, application, density, bond strength, thickness shall be inspected. Firestop systems inspected include draftstop and fireblock systems. We inspect all life safety systems including fire alarm, sprinkler, standpipe, and fire control systems.

1704.21 Sprinkler system special inspection. New and altered sprinkler system shall be inspected in accordance with Section 903 and 1704.21.1. The permit holder responsible for the sprinkler work shall perform all required acceptance tests, complete and sign the appropriate contractor's materials and test certifications. The special inspector shall witness all required tests, and shall verify thats all installation of all materials, fittings, hangers, assemblies and signage are in accordance with the approved construction documents, that painting of the sprinkler system required by Section 903.6 of this code has been performed and that the contractor has transmitted required maintenance literature and instruction to the owner. The special inspector shall verify that the material and test certification forms have been transmitted to the Fire Department and the Department of Buildings.

Exception: Special inspection of the special inspector need not witness the hydrostatic pressure test shall not be required when such test is witnessed by the department.

 

1704.21.1 Hydrostatic pressure testing. All new and altered sprinkler systems in building shall undergo successful hydrostatic pressure testing by a licensed master plumber or licensed fire suppression piping contractor in accordance with the requirements of this code, including Section 901.5, and NFPA 13.



907.19 Inspection, testing and maintenance and testing schedules and procedure for fire alarm and fire detection systems shall be in accordance with the New York City Fire Code. 

 

907.16 Acceptance tests upon completions of the installation of the fire alarm system, alarm notification appliances and circuits, alarm initiating devices and circuits, signaling line circuits, and primary and secondary power supplies, shall be tested in accordance with NFPA 72.
